We work them out from published sources using simplified rules, so they leave out much of what decides your real position: residency tests, tax treaties, allowances, special regimes, your family and the timing of a move. They may be out of date or wrong.

How current the data is
- Tax rules: researched in October 2026 against the rules then in force (for tax years that don’t follow the calendar year, the year that includes October 2026).
- Exchange rates: 18 October 2026.
- Cost of living: October 2026 for 38 of the 65 cities. The other 27 use older prices.
- Safety, healthcare, climate, demographics and visa rules: carried over from the first version of the site and not yet re-checked this year.
